Meet Sherry, the original Rescue Rider

My first rescue was when I was five years old. She was a Dachshund puppy so young that her eyes were not yet open. Because of her color I named her Peanut Butter, and this was the beginning of my rescue journey. She lived to be 21 years old.
My years of dedication to animal rescue combined with my love of biking inspired a New Year’s Resolution. In 2007 I resolved to pedal my bike to raise donations for dogs, cats and wildlife. My commitment has been to raise donations for every mile contributed with a goal of raising at least $1,000 per year." To date I have ridden over 10,000 miles and raised more than $40,000 with the help of generous donors to support various animals and rescue initiatives. Other dedicated supporters contribute miles and my goal has been to raise donations for every mile and raise at least $1,000 per year.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a New Year’s resolution would evolve into an ongoing crusade for many years.
The official "Rescue Rider" journey started on the West Orange Trail from Oakland to Winter Garden, Clermont, and Apopka, then gradually expanded to other trails in Central Florida. Some of the most memorable trips included encounters with alligators, snakes, and cows; passing by otters, llamas, whitetail deer and a herd of longhorn steer; and riding through construction projects, by homeless sites and through horse ranch areas.
Please check out our newly revised website and photos of some of the hundreds of rescues (at the bottom of each page) that we've been able to help with donor support and find out how you, too, can make a difference in an animal's life!
